Rapid-Fire Rant: The Mod Problem

Each Rapid Fire Rant allows a writer to vent their spleen on a certain topic relating to gaming. Leave your thin skins at the door.

99.9% of all mods suck. There I said it.

For every "Research and Development" or "Portal Prelude". There's a dozen shitty Wolfenstien remakes or unfinished student projects clogging up the internet. Its time to sort the problem with mods...

Its like counter-strike... but better!
We do not need another counter-strike or co-op single player hack. Adding vehicles doesn't count either. Do something fresh or don't bother.

Pre-production is for people with less talent.
Yeah right. Start planning before you do anything. Look at concept art, figure out what the player interactions are... is this fun ?

We don't have a skinner.
We know already, you don't get a skinner because your mod is shit.

Content coming soon!
Stop making the website and learn how to use the tools first. Build some gameplay tests using cubes. The internet does not need another "Best mod ever!" description sitting on a blank moddb.

Oh that beta wasn't open...
Thanks to bit-torrent we can play that restricted beta. Whoops! Yes we will post on the forums and tell you how much it sucks. Suck it up, stop flaming and bring the community onboard.

We are migrating to the new engine and its going to be awesome!
For the love of God don't switch engines. Finish what you started. Look at the nameless mod for example. Took them 7 years ? did people care ? hell no! We still loved it.

Lets all make better mods... for our childrens sake.
